Although the brand’s current flagship SUV named the BMW X7, still hasn’t been presented to the market in its production form, and which should debut later this year, the manufacturer has announced the largest SUV in the lineup which will stand above the X2, X4, and X6 models. The newest BMW X8 SUV will be placed somewhere between the upcoming X7 and the announced Cullinan which is produced by the BMW Group Rolls-Royce. According to some speculations, the X8 will look like a coupe version of the BMW X7. However, this is not yet confirmed. And the latest reports are pretty sure that it will be a typical luxury sport utility vehicle. However, it will offer even more space than the X7. What we can say for sure also is that the brand-new X8 is going to be ultra-luxurious, and made primarily for the Chinese market.
Furthermore, visually, the X8 is expected to look better and more handsome than any other BMW’s crossover SUV. The interior will be very spacious and will deliver excellent space and comfort for all the occupants. Under the hood, the newest BMW X8 should be powered with a host of 6- and 8-cylinder engines and strong performance. Although there is still not a word about the technology, we can easily guess that it will feature the latest features and safety systems.
BMW X8 powertrain
The production of the new BMW X8 is still not confirmed so there aren’t precise details yet about the engine which might power it. However, we can conclude that it should get a range of six, eight-cylinder, and V12 engine. As well, some sources claim that is should also be powered by two hybrid units. So, the new BMW could receive a 3.0-liter diesel engine with the output of 313 hp. Another unit which also found its place in the X8 is a 4.4-liter V-8 petrol engine which is able to develop 450 horsepower. Furthermore, we could also expect a 6.6-liter V12 engine and two iPerformance hybrid variants.
Design of exterior and interior
First of all, since the BMW X8 will be a large SUV which should have a reasonable weight, the manufacturer will most likely combine the platform used by the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and the CLAR architecture which underpins the current lineup of brand’s SUV and sedan models. As well, the latest news has confirmed that the new BMW won’t get a coupe-like profile but a traditional SUV shape.
Moving to the cabin of the X8, we can expect spacious and very cozy interior. It will probably borrow some design cues from the other models in the BMW’s lineup and we can expect the latest equipment. Moreover, the carmaker will probably equip it with the advanced self-driving technologies and it might use the same larger infotainment touchscreen found in the X7.
Release date and price
The production version of the all-new BMW X8 is not yet confirmed, but we assume that we won’t see it before the end of 2019, or even 2020. As for the price, the X8 will probably be the most expensive in its lineup. It could easily reach the price of around $157,000.
