The new 2020 Volvo XC90 should be launched next year, most likely in the second half of 2019. This time, we are expecting some small yet noticeable changes. So, the exterior might get some new exterior colors and perhaps some new details. The interior will be elegant as well-equipped as usual while in the engine department it will be available with three types of engines including a hybrid unit.
Engines and performances of the new 2020 Volvo XC90
The 2020 Volvo XC90 will return with three types of engines as the 2019 model year. So, the base T5 engine will be powered by a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine. This unit will be able to make 250 horses and the torque of 258 pound-feet of torque. It will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and it will be offered with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configuration. So, the front-wheel drive will be rated at 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel drive model will get 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
The next is a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged/supercharged engine which will be found in the T6 model. It will use the same 8-speed automatic gearbox and the all-wheel drive system will be standard. It will have the output of 316 horses and 295 lb-ft of torque. As for the fuel economy, it is estimated to be 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
There is also a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged/supercharged engine combined with an electric motor. The inline-4 will have the output of 313 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque while the electric motor will be able to make 87 hp and 177 pound-feet of torque. And the total output of this unit will be 400 horses and 472 lb-ft of torque. The 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive layout will be standard. This engine will get 25 mpg combined and 58 MPGe combined. The all-electric range will be up to 17 miles.
The exterior design of the 2020 Volvo XC90
Design-wise, the 2020 Volvo XC90 will get the same elegant and very handsome exterior styling as its forerunner. However, it could get some small changes so it looks fresh and competitive. The front end will get the well-known Thor’s hammer grille with a massive Volvo insignia and the T-shaped LED running lights. Moving to the rear end, there will be the elongated taillights and a power-operated tailgate. It will be offered with several designs of the wheels and those will be in sizes from 18 to 21 inches. Furthermore, the R-Design model will get a more aggressive and sportier design, and it will get a unique design of the grille and high-gloss black exterior trim, octagonal exhaust pipes, and matte-silver mirror caps.
The interior design of the 2020 Volvo XC90
The 2020 Volvo XC90 will come with three rows of seats as standard and it will be able to welcome up to seven passengers. However, there will also be the new T8 Excellence XC90 which will be able to welcome four passengers. Generally, the cabin will look elegant, sophisticated, and very quality. The front seats will be very supportive and comfortable and the third row will be the best for the children. On the center of the dashboard, there will be a standard 9.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. As well, the XC90 will be available with an optional leather and wood trim. As for the cargo, it will have the room of 15.8 cubic feet. With the second row folded down, it expands to 41.8 cubes while the maximum cargo room is 85.7 cubic feet.
The 2020 Volvo XC90 will be available in three trim levels and those include the base Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription models. the Momentum model will come standard with leatherette seats, power adjustable front seats, a hands-free power tailgate, a panoramic moonroof, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping aid. It will also be equipped with the latest navigation, a 9.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, audio system with 10 speakers, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, HomeLink universal garage remote, Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving system, and other active safety features. The R-Design model will add leather seats, larger wheels, a 12.3-inch digital dashboard, and a Harman Kardon audio system. The range-topping Inscription model will also get a more quality Nappa leather upholstery, unique wheels, ventilated front seats, etc.
Some of the options will include a headlight pressure-washing system, heated steering wheel, Bowers & Wilkins audio system, 4-corner air suspension, and heated rear seats. The Excellence trim will have individual seats, a rear-seat refrigerator, and many other items.
Release date and price
The new 2020 Volvo XC90 should arrive during next year, but the precise date is not yet revealed. The price will start at around $48,000 and will go up to $106,000 for the range-topping trims.
