This time next year, we are hoping to see the newest 2020 Volvo XC60 which probably shouldn’t be much different from the current model but it will definitively get some changes. According to some rumors, the new Volvo might also offer the all-new EV version alongside the same three engine options found in the current model. In terms of design, it could get some small upgrades and changes in order to look even more handsome and modern.
2020 Volvo XC60 powertrain and performances
The new 2020 Volvo XC60 will return with three engines under its hood, but it could also offer a new engine option. So, to start with the familiar 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine, and this unit powers the base XC60 T5 model. This unit is capable of making 250 horses and 258 pound-feet of torque. It will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and this gearbox will be a standard for all the engines. As well, there will be a choice between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. Connected to front-wheel drive, it will get 22/29 mpg. And the all-wheel drive model is rated at 20/27 mpg in the city/highway drive.
Furthermore, the XC60 T6 model will be powered by a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged and supercharged engine. This one will be able to make 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The 8-speed automatic is standard and the all-wheel drive system will be standard for this unit. As for the fuel economy, it will get 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
There is also a plug-in hybrid engine and it is a 2.0-liter supercharged engine combined with an electric motor of 87 hp and a lithium-ion battery of 10.4 kWh. This engine will be able to deliver 400 horses and the torque of 472 lb-ft. It will provide an all-electric range, when fully charged, of 17 miles. It is rated at 26 mpg combined. On the other hand, according to some sources, we might also see an EV version of the new Volvo XC60. However, for now, there is no further information or precise details.
The exterior design of the new 2020 Volvo XC60
Design-wise, the new 2020 Volvo XC60 will look like a smaller version of its larger sibling, the XC90. It will look elegant but at the same time bold and very handsome. There will also be the R-Design model which will get even more aggressive appearance because of the massive glossy and black grille. The standard model will feature the familiar sharp grille and a pair of slim, hammer-style headlamps. The Volvo will get several wheels designs and those will differ in size from 18-inch to 21- inches. Furthermore, all the models will get a panoramic moonroof as standard. However, this time the manufacturer might offer it with some new colors and perhaps some new details just to refresh its look.
The interior of the 2020 Volvo XC60
Like the XC90, the new 2020 Volvo XC60will offer a luxurious cabin made of premium materials, equipped with top-notch features, and it will be very comfortable. It will come standard with two rows of seats and will be able to place up to five passengers. The dashboard will be fitted with nice looking woodgrain trim and there will be a standard 9.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system which will be positioned vertically. Furthermore, all the seats are very cozy and supportive. The base model will get leatherette upholstery while the higher trims will feature real leather seats. The cargo space measures 29.7 cubic feet and with the rear seats folded down, it expands to 68.7 cubic feet.
The equipment of the new 2020 Volvo XC60
The new 2020 Volvo XC60 will be offered in three trim levels as its predecessor. And those include Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription models. So, the base model will include power-adjustable front seats, keyless ignition, 18-inch wheels, a power liftgate, premium audio system, a 9.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, road sign recognition, active lane control, automatic emergency braking, dual-zone climate control, LED headlights, etc.
The R-Design model will add leather, blind-spot monitoring, power-folding rear seats, Park Pilot assist, a Harman/Kardon premium audio system, and navigation. The range-topping Inscription model will also include quad-zone climate control, driftwood trim, 19-inch wheels, and a few more items. Furthermore, some of the options will include heated rear seats and heated steering wheel, larger wheels, a 4-corner air-suspension, Bowers & Wilkins audio system, and front seats with ventilation and massaging function. A rearview camera, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, and road sign recognition will be standard for all models.
Release date and price
We are expecting to see the newest 2020 Volvo XC60 next year, most likely in the second half of 2019. The price should start at around $39,500 which is the price of the current model.
