Sometime during next year, we are hoping to see the new 2020 Subaru Forester. However, since the 2019 model year has been fully refreshed, the 2020 model should get just some minor but noticeable changes. So, this time, we are expecting some new optional features including new wheels, more color combinations, and more equipment. Under its hood, it should get the same engine as before and for now, there is one sole option.
Engine and performance of the 2020 Subaru Forester
For the new 2020 Subaru Forester, we can anticipate the same engine as before. And there will be one single option. It is a 2.5-liter flat-4 cylinder engine. And this unit is able to make 185 horses at 5,800 rpm and 176 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm. It is mated to a continuously variable transmission and will feature a new direct injection system. All the models will come standard with the all-wheel drive system. And will be able to tow up to 3,500 pounds. When it comes to fuel economy, all the versions are rated at 26 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 29 mpg combined.
The exterior design of the 2020 Subaru Forester
First of all, the current, 2019 model year has been moved to a new platform which has given it a more composed and a smoother driving experience. Its handling has also been slightly improved although it has always been very precise. Design-wise, it features two-box shape and the front end will be dominated by the large, angular, and vertical grille and the bird-like headlights. Looking from the side, the Forester keeps its tall windows and roof rails which are standard on all the models. The base model will ride on the standard 17-inch steel wheels. But it will also be available with more attractive 17-inch alloy wheels. The higher trims, the Limited and Touring models will ride on the larger 18-inch wheels.
On the other hand, the 2020 Subaru Forester might just get some small upgrades this time. So, we might see some small adjustments of the front fascia, perhaps new colors, and some new designs of the wheels. However, we don’t expect any drastic changes.
Inside the cabin of the 2020 Subaru Forester
Like before, the 2020 Subaru Forester is a five-seater and the current model has been slightly revised which has improved the space inside the cabin and therefore it now provides more comfort for all the passengers. And the rear seats now provide more legroom as well. The materials are also more quality and the while cabin is more functional. In the center of the dashboard, there is the standard 6.5-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. But there is also a larger 8.0-inch display in the higher trim levels.
Furthermore, the front seats are very firm and cozy, and the high seating position provides excellent outward vision. As well, the base model comes with a manually operated driver’s seat while the higher trim levels will get a 10-way power adjustable seat. The base model will have cloth upholstery while the Limited and Touring trims will feature leather seats. The dashboard is covered in soft-touch materials so as the doors and there is some nice contrasting stitching. Speaking of the cargo, the Forester offers the room of 35.4 cubic feet with all seats up. However, with the second row of seats folded down, it expands to 76.1 cubic feet.
The equipment and safety of the 2020 Subaru Forester
The 2020 Subaru Forester will be offered in several trim levels. And those include the base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring trim levels. So, the base model will get automatic climate control, power features, LED headlights, active lane control, the 6.5-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, adaptive cruise control, etc. The trailer-stability assist, electronic parking brake, automatic power door locks, a rearview camera, pre-collision braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and pre-collision throttle management will also be standard.
Furthermore, the Premium model will feature alloy wheels, tinted windows, 10-way power driver’s seat, roof rack, rear-seat vents, remote engine start from the smartphone, and illuminated vanity mirrors. This model will also be available with heated seats, keyless ignition, a power tailgate, and blind-spot monitors. The Sport model will add an additional drive model, 18-inch wheels, automatic high-beam headlights, heated seats, and keyless ignition. In the Premium model, you will also find leather seats, LED headlamps, dual-zone climate control, keyless ignition, a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment, etc. The navigation, a heated steering wheel, and Harman Kardon speakers will be optional.
Finally, the Touring model will add navigation, Harman Kardon speakers, power-adjustable passenger’s seat, a memory for the driver’s seat, heated rear seats, and a few more items.
Release date and pricing
The new 2020 Subaru Forester might arrive during next year. But the precise date is still not known to the public. The price won’t be much different from the current and it will start at around $25,000.
