For those who are looking for a mid-size crossover SUV with sporty appearance, reasonable price, and solid engine options, then you might want to check out the new 2020 Kia Sportage. It also offers a cozy interior loaded with many modern features. The 2020 model year won’t be much different from the current model year, except it might get some new engine options including a hybrid powertrain. As well, this time, the Sportage could feature even more standard and optional equipment.
Engines and performances of the 2020 Kia Sportage
The 2020 Kia Sportage will return back with the familiar engines and there are two engines in the offer. The base is a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine which is capable of making 181 horses and 175 pound-feet of torque. The engine works with a 6-speed automatic transmission and comes with a choice between front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. The LX model with front-wheel drive gets 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway while the EX version is rated at 22/29 mpg. Connected to all wheels, it is estimated to be 21 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
The next option is a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine. This powertrain will be able to deliver 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. It will also be mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and will be offered with front- and all-wheel drive configurations. As for the fuel economy, this engine is rated at 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive system. The all-wheel drive model gets 20 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.
On the other hand, the new Kia should also get a diesel unit and it is going to be a 1.6-liter engine. This one will be available with either 113 horses or 134 hp. It will work with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and will come with all-wheel drive configuration. Moreover, it could also get a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine with a mild-hybrid unit and a battery of 48-volt.
Design of exterior
In the terms of external appearance, the newest 2020 Kia Sportage won’t get any major changes this time. It will keep up with its clean design which has been slightly revised for the previous model year. The front fascia now looks more masculine with a refreshed lower bumper. There is also a familiar tiger-nose grille and a pair of highly-positioned headlamps. They come with full LED lighting. Furthermore, the SX Turbo model will get LED fog lights and dual exhaust outlets on the rear fascia. This model will also get 19-inch alloy wheels as standard while the base model will ride on the 17-inch wheels. As well, the all-wheel drive model will feature more ride height and unique design of the front end.
The interior design of the 2020 Kia Sportage
The cabin of the 2020 Kia Sportage will be very pleasant, spacious, and well designed. All the seats are very supportive and comfortable even at long drives. The driver’s seat is a 6-way adjustable while on the higher trims levels the rear seats are also heated. The two-row seating configuration is standard and there is also plenty of room for storage and cargo. With all seats up, the Sportage has the cargo room of 30.7 cubic feet. However, with the second-row seats folded down, the Kia expands its cargo room to 60.1 cubic feet. The base model comes with cloth upholstery while the leather is available in the higher trims. Furthermore, a 5.0-inch touchscreen is standard but the larger 7.0-inch screen is also offered for upper trim levels.
Equipment and safety of the 2020 Kia Sportage
The 2020 Kia Sportage will be offered in several trim levels and those will include the base LX, EX, and SX models. The base Sportage LX will come standard with power features, 17-inch wheels, air conditioning, a 5.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, an AM/FM/CD player with 6 speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, a rearview camera, stain-resistant upholstery, and automatic headlamps. However, an available package will add a larger 7.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment and Apple CarPlay and Android auto connectivity, a power driver seat, heated front seats, and automatic climate control.
The mid-range EX model will add a glossy interior trim, an extra USB port, leather upholstery, cross-traffic alert, power-folding side mirrors with turn signals, blind-spot monitors, and 18-inch wheels. Automatic emergency braking will be optional. The LX version will get automatic emergency braking, cooled front seats, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, Harman Kardon audio system, and a power tailgate.

It is not yet officially confirmed when exactly the 2020 Kia Sportage should go on sale. But we believe that it might be sometime during next year, perhaps in late 2019. The price shouldn’t differ much from the current model which starts at around $24,000.
