The current, 2019 model year has just been released with several improvements, so we sincerely doubt that the new 2020 Kia Sorento will get some major upgrades. The current model has gotten a new design of the front and rear fascia, upgraded interior, and more safety features. The 2020 version will come with two types of engines as before, standard three-row seating configuration, and perhaps some new features.
Engines and performances of the 2020 Kia Sorento
The all-new 2020 Kia Sorento will return with two types of engines depending on a trim level. The one is going to be a 2.4-liter inline-4 unit which will be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It will be able to generate 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. The front-wheel configuration will be standard while the all-wheel drive layout will also be offered. Connected to front wheels, this engine will get 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel drive version will be rated at 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
The higher trim levels will be powered by a 3.3-liter V-6 engine which will be able to produce 290 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque. This engine will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It will also be available with front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. As for the fuel economy, the front-wheel drive model is estimated to be 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Furthermore, the all-wheel drive variant will be rated at 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The Sorento will be able to tow between 2,000 and 5,000 pounds which will depend on a drivetrain and engine option.
The exterior design of the 2020 Kia Sorento
As for the external appearance, the current model has been slightly refreshed with revised front and rear fascias, so we don’t anticipate any large changes for the upcoming 2020 Kia Sorento. The front end now features a chrome grille and a pair of swept-back headlamps. In the higher trim levels, they will be offered with LED lights. The front bumper is also new. The profile has remained mainly unchanged but we can notice some new designs of the wheels. Around back, the Sorento has a new bumper, highly positioned taillights, and four-light LED fog lights. Furthermore, the higher trim levels will get dark metallic grille, chrome roof rails, and stainless-steel bumper trim. Depending on a trim level, the Sorento will be offered with wheels in a size between 17 and 19 inches.
The interior design
The 2020 Kia Sorento will come with three-row seating configuration. And the two-row configuration has been deleted for the 2019 model year. So, it will be able to welcome up to seven passengers. The front and the second rows of seats are comfortable and offer plenty of space while the third row is suitable for smaller adults and children. The base model will come with cloth upholstery while the higher trims will be available with leather upholstery. In the center of the dashboard, there is a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system.
Moreover, behind the third row, there is a cargo room of 11.3 cubic feet. However, with the seats folded down, there is a room of roughly 73 cubes.
2020 Kia Sorento equipment
The standard equipment of the base 2020 Kia Sorento will include a rearview camera, keyless entry, 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, cloth upholstery, a 7.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The LX model will add satellite radio, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alerts, two USB ports, an acoustic windshield, automatic climate control, and a power passenger seat, dual-zone climate control, and power driver’s seat.
Furthermore, the Sorento EX will get leather upholstery, a 7-inch digital display in the instrument panel, navigation system, heated front seats, push-button start, 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, auto-dimming rearview mirror with universal garage remote. This model will also get more safety features such as automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, smart cruise control, and lane-departure warning.
Moreover, the range-topping Sorento SX Limited will get heated steering wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, an 8.0-inch display, the second-row sunshades, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and Premium Nappa leather upholstery. It will also include Harman/Kardon surround-sound audio system with 10 speakers and wireless phone-charging. A panoramic sunroof and roof rails will be optional on the lower trim levels.
The standard safety equipment in all the models will include 6 airbags, stability control, and a rearview camera. The SXL model will also get a surround view camera and automatic high beams as standard.
Release date and price
The new 2020 Kia Sorento is expected hit the market sometime during next year. And we assume that it won’t be before the end of 2019. Its starting price is expected to be around $26,000 while the range-topping model will begin at $47,000.
