2020 Jeep Wrangler Diesel and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Editions

The Jeep Wrangler is one of the brand’s most recognizable SUVs on the road. It features the unique design, shows excellent off-road capabilities and inside the cabin, it is now nicer and more quality. Under the hood, it offers both 4-cylinder and V-6 units but the carmaker will expand the lineup with some new powertrains. So, the upcoming 2020 Jeep Wrangler will now come with two new engines: the diesel and plug-in hybrid. However, design-wise, we don’t anticipate any changes since it has been all-new for 2018.

2020 Jeep Wrangler Diesel and Plug-in Hybrid engines and performances

The all-new 2020 Jeep Wrangler will be available with the diesel and the plug-in hybrid engines alongside the familiar 4-cylinder and V-6. The diesel is a 3.0-liter V-6 engine. This one has the output of 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. The engine is coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The next is a plug-in hybrid powertrain which also powers the current Chrysler Pacifica. This powertrain combines a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery of 16 kWh. However, we still don’t have the information what will be the total output of this unit in the upcoming Wrangler.

On the other hand, the 2020 Jeep Wrangler will continue to offer the same 4-cylinder and V-6 unit. The one is a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine which is able to make 268 horses and 295 lb-ft of torque. This unit is linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The next is a 3.6-liter V-6 engine. This unit can develop 285 horsepower and the torque of 260 pound-feet. It comes with either an 8-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission. Connected to a manual gearbox, it gets 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The automatic variant is rated at 18 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel drive system is standard.

Design of exterior

The iconic Jeep Wrangler has been fully refreshed as the 2018 model year so the upcoming 2020 Jeep Wrangler will continue with the same styling. In the terms of size, the Wrangler has slightly grown in size featuring 2 inches in width and the wheelbase has also been increased for two inches. So, because of its slightly larger dimensions, the Jeep is now more stable and provides additional comfort. As well, all the doors are made of lightweight aluminum so they are much easier to remove.

Furthermore, the front end wears the traditional seven-slot grille and there are prominent and large headlamps. The rear end features a lighter tailgate and both head and taillights will be available with LED lighting for better visibility. As for the body styles, the Wrangler is offered as a standard two-door and short wheelbase and extended Unlimited four-door variants. Moreover, it will be available with both soft and hardtop configurations. The Wrangler Unlimited model will have an inch larger wheelbase and will get a more angular hardtop.

The interior design of the 2020 Jeep Wrangler

The interior of the new 2020 Jeep Wrangler is now more quality and more comfortable. The front seats are cozy and more supportive and feature adjustable lumbar support which is now standard. The rear seats, in the two-door version, are a bit difficult to access but provide sufficient room. The four-door Wrangler Unlimited model is a bit larger and therefore there is more space for the rear-seat passengers. The seats are covered in either fabric or leather depending on a trim level. The dashboard is now placed a bit lower than before which provides better visibility. It is equipped with a standard 5.0-inch display while the larger 8.4-inch screen is also available. The cargo space is pretty good. It offers the room of 32 cubic feet. But with rear seats folded down, it expands to 72.4 cubes.
