With respectable interior space and great towing capacity, the Infiniti QX80 remains one of the best choices for those who love off-road adventures and larger families. This body-on-frame SUV also offers excellent tech features and advanced safety equipment. It comes in tow trim levels which are both powered by the same, strong V-8 engine. According to the latest news, the carmaker is working on the new 2020 Infiniti QX80 which is expected to enter the market sometime during next year. However, we don’t expect any larger changes this time since it is still looking fresh and competitive. Perhaps it could get some small upgrades on the technology front.
2020 Infiniti QX80 engine and performance
As in the current and previous models, the 2020 Infiniti QX80 will come with one engine option beneath the hood. It is the same 5.6-liter V-8 engine. This unit will be able to make 400 horses and 413 pound-feet of torque. It will be paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission and will come with the rear-wheel drive system as standard. However, the all-wheel drive configuration will be optional. The standard, rear-wheel drive model will get 14 mpg in the city, 20 mpg on the highway, and 16 mpg combined. The all-wheel drive version will be rated at 13 mpg in the city, 19 mpg on the highway, and 15 mpg combined. Its maximum towing capacity will be up to 8,500 pounds.
The carmaker has revised the Infiniti QX80 for the 2018 model year, so we don’t expect any large changes for the upcoming 2020 Infiniti QX80. The front end now wears a revised mesh grille, sharp headlights, and refreshed fender and it now looks more handsome than before. And with these small yet noticeable changes, the front end is less pronounced than before. The profile of the vehicle will stay unchanged and on the rear, we will notice a bit smaller bumper. The taillights are also new and feature a more modern design. Furthermore, the Infiniti QX80 Limited will be offered with an Anthracite Gray exterior color which is exclusive to this trim level. As well, it will get more chrome details which will be visible on roof rails and bumpers. This model will ride on the large 22-inch forged alloy wheels while the standard model comes with 20-inch wheels.
The interior design of the 2020 Infiniti QX80
Moving to the interior of the 2020 Infiniti QX80, we will notice spacious, quality, and a nicely looking cabin. The QX80 comes with three rows of seats which are all-day comfortable and supportive. The second row comes standard with captain’s chairs while the second-row bench is also available. There is plenty of head and legroom but the third row is a bit tight and it is the best for kids or smaller adults. The rear seat passengers will also have an optional infotainment screen. The heated front seats will be standard in the Limited model and the leather upholstery will be standard as well.
Unfortunately, the cargo room is also a bit limited; behind the third row, there is a room of only 16.6 cubic feet. However, the third row is power folding which expands the room to more than 25 cubic feet. Furthermore, the cabin is quiet thanks to the active noise cancellation. In the center of the dashboard, there is a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are also included.
The Limited trim level will get a two-tone interior combination, wood trim and satin chrome trim which will give it a more premium appearance.
Equipment and safety of the new 2020 Infiniti QX80
The 2020 Infiniti QX80 will be available in tow trim levels. Those include the base and Limited versions. So, the base model will come standard with leather upholstery, power liftgate, 20-inch wheels, second row captain’s chairs, power-adjustable front seats, a Bose audio system with 13 speakers, an 8.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, power-folding third row of seats, USB connection, automatic emergency braking, Bluetooth, and forward-collision warning.
The Limited trim level will add heated and cooled front seats, heated second row of seats, active safety features, an air suspension, dual 8.0-inch displays for the rear seats entertainment system, wood trim, and so on. Furthermore, a Driver Assistance package will add forward emergency braking, active cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, back-up collision, collision warning, and so on. As well, there is also a 22-inch wheels and tire package and an optional in-car 4G LTE-based Wi-Fi.
Release date and price
It is still not officially confirmed when exactly the 2020 Infiniti QX80 will hit the market. However, we assume that it won’t be before the year 2019. Its price is expected to start at around $65,100 while the higher trim level will go up to $80,000.
