According to the latest news, the manufacturer is working on the new 2020 Dodge Durango. The new Durango is expected to be based on the new platform which also underpins the new Ram 1500 model. Design-wise, it will most likely get some new styling details so it stays competitive and it could also get more tech features. On the engine front, the new Dodge will get three types of engines f=depending on a trim level.
The powertrain and performances of the 2020 Dodge Durango
The upcoming 2020 Dodge Durango is going to hit the market with three engine options under its hood. The base engine is a 3.6-liter V-6 engine which is able to make 295 horses and the torque of 260 pound-feet of torque. This engine will work with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive systems will be offered. Connected to rear-wheel drive configuration, the Durango will be rated at 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel drive layout will get 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg combined.
The next is a 5.7-liter V-8 engine which will be available for the R/T and Citadel models. This one will have the output of 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. It will also work with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and will be offered with AWD. This unit will be rated at 14 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. Its maximum towing capacity will be up to 7,400 pounds.
Furthermore, under the hood of the Durango SRT model will be placed the most powerful unit. It is a 6.4-liter V-8 engine which will be able to generate up to 475 hp and the torque of 470 lb-ft. It will use the same 8-speed automatic and the all-wheel drive layout will be standard. As for the fuel economy, this one will get 13 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. As well, this unit will be able to reach 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.
Design of exterior and platform
First of all, the brand-new 2020 Dodge Durango is expected to ride on a new platform which underpins the new 2019 Ram 1500. The Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will also be based on this same platform. However, although it will ride on the new platform, the Durango shouldn’t change dimensionally from the current model. But, it could appear lighter than before which will improve its fuel economy and handling.
Visually, the new Durango will return with its familiar bold, aggressive, and muscular design. But it should definitively feature some small adjustments in order to stay competitive and fresh. So, for the 2020 model year, we might see slightly revised grille and headlamps, and changes on the rear fascia with a new bumper and taillights. However, there is still no precise information so we will have to wait for official news.
The interior design of the 2020 Dodge Durango
Inside the cabin, the new 2020 Dodge Durango will arrive with two rows of seats as the standard configuration, and the third row of seats will be optional. The first and the second rows of seats will be cozy and spacious. And the third row is perhaps better for smaller adults or children since it is a bit tight. All the versions will come with a choice between captain’s chairs or a bench for the second row. With the first two rows up, the Durango will have the cargo room of 43.3 cubes. With the third row in the place, it has the room of only 17 cubes. However, with the second and the third row folded down, the room expands to 85 cubic feet. The dashboard will be fitted with the standard 7.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system.
The equipment of the 2020 Dodge Durango
The standard equipment of the 2020 Dodge Durango will include a 7.0-inch touchscreen, several USB ports, five seats, keyless ignition, three-zone climate control, Bluetooth, 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and so on. The Durango GT will add third-row seating, 20-inch alloy wheels, an 8.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, leather upholstery, and second-row captain’s chairs. The R/T model will also include heavily bolstered seats while the Citadel will get heated and cooled front seats and Nappa leather upholstery.
As for the safety, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, active lane control, and adaptive cruise control will be optional. The SRT model will have Laguna leather, carbon fiber trim on the instrument panel, a flat-bottom steering wheel, SRT logons in the seats and paddle shifters, etc.
