One of Audi’s top-selling models in the compact luxury SUV segment is set to arrive as the 2020 model year with several upgrades. It is the 2020 Audi Q5 which will represent the third model of the second generation which has been introduced in 2018. However, in the terms of the exterior styling, the Q5 probably won’t bring any large changes since it has been fully refreshed recently. The interior has also been improved offering more space for the rear passengers, and with more tech features. On the other hand, the Q5 should get upgrades under its hood. And it is said that it will finally arrive with a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid engine.
2020 Audi Q5 powertrains and performances
The 2020 Audi Q5 will return with a choice of 4-cylinder and V-6 engines. However, it is expected to get some new ones as well. So, the base will be a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine which has the output of 252 horses and 273 pound-feet of torque. This engine is coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch S Tronic transmission. The Quattro all-wheel drive system will be standard for all the engines. As for the fuel economy, this one gets 23 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. It will be able to hit 60 mph in 5.9 seconds.
The next is a 3.0-liter V-6 turbocharged engine. It is able to produce 354 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. This unit works with an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The Quattro AWD is also standard and it is rated at 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The V-6 will be quicker and will reach 60 mph in 5.1 seconds.
Furthermore, the 2020 model year should also be offered with the RS variant which will use the same engine which is found in the RS 5. It is a 2.9-liter V6 powertrain which can develop around 444 horsepower. As well, the Q5 will probably be available with a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid engine. However, there isn’t any precise information about performance at the moment.
Design of exterior
The 2020 Audi Q5 will represent the third model year of the second generation which has been introduced in 2018. So, we don’t expect any major changes except perhaps some small adjustments. The front end of the vehicle seems a bit longer after the full redesign this year. It also features the brand’s familiar shield grille and standard HID headlights. However, the LED lighting will be optional. On the rear end, there are new LED taillights and elongated tailpipe. As well, the roof rails are standard in all trim levels. The Q5 rides on the standard 18-inch wheels but the larger 19- and 20-inch wheels will also be available. Furthermore, the SQ5 model will slightly differ from the standard model with the unique design of the grille, prominent headlights, and a roof spoiler.
The 2020 Audi Q5 interior design
Inside the cabin, the 2020 Audi Q5 remains standard with two rows of seats. And it can accommodate up to five passengers comfortably. The seats are covered in quality leather and are highly comfortable and supportive. After the second generation model redesign, the Q5 has gotten slightly wider wheelbase which has made it more spacious, especially for the rear-seat passengers. As well, it is offered with the optional wood trim with matte and glossy finishes for a more luxurious look. Moreover, its cargo space is very good and with the rear seats folded down, it increases to more than 60 cubic feet. The Q5 comes also with optional Virtual Cockpit with the larger 12.3-inch digital display.
Equipment and safety
The base 2020 Audi Q5 Premium model will come standard with power locks and windows, power-operated front seats, leather, a proximity key, three-zone climate control, power tailgate, audio system, Bluetooth, a 7.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment system, a rearview camera, USB ports, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and so on. The Premium Plus model will add LED headlamps, automatic braking, blind-spot monitors, and a power panoramic mooonroof.
Stepping into the Prestige model, there will be Bang & Olufsen audio system with 19 speakers, 20-inch alloy wheels, an 8.3-inch touchscreen, navigation system, top-view camera system, rear parking sensors, and a head-up display. Furthermore, the Virtual Cockpit with a 12.3-inch display and Audi’s MMI infotainment system, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and adaptive damping suspension will be optional.
The standard safety features will include airbags, a rearview camera, and stability control. Some of the options will be cruise control, blind-spot monitors, rear cross traffic alert, automatic high-beam control, traffic-sign recognition, active lane-keeping assist, and rear automatic braking.
