The Toyota 4Runner is one of the most recognizable SUVs on the road which is known for its excellent off-road ability, rugged style and a powerful engine under its hood. It is available in several trim levels which include SR5, TRD Off Road, TRD Pro, and Limited versions. This reliable SUV with great towing capacity has brought some upgrades with the new Wilderness and TRD Enhancement packages as the 2018 model year but the newer version is also announced and it is the 2019 Toyota 4Runner. However, the 2019 model year will arrive with changes which are mostly seen it the TRD Pro version.
So, the newest 4Runner will get most of the changes in the TRD Prod version. Those will be seen in the external appearance with the new roof rack, new tires, and new red details on the front. Inside the cabin, we will notice new materials and colors for the seats, upgraded infotainment system and also an updated audio. On the other hand, there shouldn’t be any changes under its hood. So, the 4Runner will carry over the same and strong 4.0-liter V-6. Furthermore, the Toyota’s Star Safety System should now be standard.
Engine and performance of the 2019 Toyota 4Runner
There is one engine option available for all the trim levels of the 2019 Toyota 4Runner as before. It is a 4.0-liter V-6 engine which is able to deliver 270 horses and the torque of 278 pound-feet. This powertrain is paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission. With rear-wheel drive system, the 4Runner gets 17/20/18 mpg. With all-wheel drive configuration, it is rated at 17 mpg in the city, 20 mpg on the highway, and 18 mpg combined. Its towing capacity is up to 5,000 pounds.
Exterior and interior design
Not much will change in the exterior styling of the 2019 Toyota 4Runner. It will retain its familiar boxy, rugged and a bit aggressive appearance. For the 2019 model year, the TRD Pro version will feature one major and most noticeable change which includes the new roof rack. As well, it will also get new LED fog lights and the new red TRD logo on the front skid plate. Furthermore, it will ride on the 17-inch inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires.
The changes inside the cabin are also minor but important. The 2019 Toyota 4Runner will get upgraded Entune infotainment system in the TRD Pro trim levels. There will also be updated JBL audio sound system, navigation and TRD logos on the floor, headrests etc. Unfortunately, the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto won’t be in the offer once again. The seats will be upholstered in black cloth with red contrast stitching. Like before, the 4Runner will be able to welcome five passengers. And it will offer a great cargo room of 47.2 cubic feet. If you fold flat the rear seats, there is a room of even 89.7 cubes.
Release date and price
The precise release date and price of the upcoming 2019 Toyota 4Runner aren’t officially confirmed. However, the price shouldn’t be a large departure from the current which starts at $35,000 while the TRD Pro is around $43,000.
