The current generation of the Subaru’s well-known Outback was introduced in 2015, and the upcoming 2019 Subaru Outback will represent the fourth year model. This means that complete makeover and the next generation model will probably arrive in 2020. However, the 2018 model year has arrived with a restyled exterior and new design of the wheels. The carmaker has also applied some upgrades inside the cabin and they are mostly referred to technology. So, the infotainment system has been upgraded with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity which are now standard. Therefore, the upcoming 2019 Subaru Outback shouldn’t feature any major changes since the full revamp is set for 2020.
The upcoming Outback will arrive in the same trim levels which include the base, Premium, Limited, and Touring models. There will be two engine options a 4-cylinder and a stronger V-6 unit. Visually, the Outback will retain its wagon-like body style with great ground clearance. As for its off-road manners, the Outback can be considered better than some SUVs. Inside the cabin, it provides comfortable and quiet ride with plenty of space for all the passengers. In the tech department, the Outback comes with more standard equipment even in the base trim.
2019 Subaru Outback powertrain and performance
The base engine of the 2019 Subaru Outback will be a 2.5-liter inline-4 which is able to develop 175 hp and 174 pound-feet of torque. The second is a 3.6-liter V-6 which is optional on the Limited and Touring trim levels. This engine is capable of making 256 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. Both units will work with a continuously variable transmission. As for the fuel economy, the inline-4 is rated at 25 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway, and 28 mpg combined. The V-6 is estimated to be 20/27/22 mpg in the city/highway/combined.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the external appearance, the 2019 Subaru Outback shouldn’t get any upgrades this time since the 2018 model year has been slightly refreshed. It has gotten restyled bumpers and a revised grille on the front. The base model rides on the 17-inch wheels while the Limited and Touring trims will get the larger 18-inch alloys.
Inside, the 2019 Subaru Outback will feature a clean design of the dashboard with a standard 6.5-inch screen for infotainment system. The higher trim levels will receive an 8.0-inch touchscreen. Furthermore, the base model will get cloth upholstery and silver interior trim while the Limited and Touring will get leather upholstery and fake wood details.
As for the equipment, all models come standard with Bluetooth, a manual driver’s seat, power windows and locks, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The Premium will add a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control. In the Limited, There will also be Harman Kardon audio, blind-spot monitors, heated rear seats, power liftgate, power moonroof, and a 4-way power passenger’s seat. The Touring will include brown leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and a few more features.
Release date and price
There isn’t precise information when exactly the 2019 Subaru Outback will appear on the market. However, the price should stay close to the current which is around $26,000 for the base model.
