The fifth generation of the Subaru’s popular crossover SUV is almost ready to hit the market this fall. It is the all-new 2019 Subaru Forester which will get a handful of changes and improvements. It will ride on the new platform shared with the Subaru Ascent which will make it larger. So, because of the increase in size, the new Forester will offer more room for all occupants. Visually, it will feature some new design tweaks, and this time it will get the new Driver Focus attention-monitoring system.
Engine and performance of the 2019 Subaru Forester
Under the hood of the 2019 Subaru Forester, we should see some changes this time. All the trim levels will get one single option meaning that the previous 2.0-liter boxer-4 turbocharged engine will no longer be available. So, the newest Subaru Forester will now be powered by a familiar 2.5-liter boxer-4 engine. This unit will be able to develop 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. The engine will be paired with a continuously variable transmission as standard and the 6-speed manual will no longer be offered. Furthermore, the Sport and Touring trim levels will get paddle-shifters as well. The all-wheel drive system will be standard. As for the fuel economy, we expect the improvement of 1 mpg so the Forester will get 33 mpg on the highway.
Design of exterior and interior
The all-new 2019 Subaru Forester will ride on the new architecture, the Subaru Global Platform which also underpins the larger Subaru Ascent, Crosstrek, and Impreza models. So, The Forester and Ascent models will share some similar design cues as well. As well, it will slightly grow in size which will provide more room inside the cabin.
In the terms of exterior look, the new Forester won’t be much different for the last model’s year, although some changes will be visible. The front end will look blocky while on the rear end we will notice new taillights. The Forester Sport will feature more aggressive appearance with new orange accents and 18-inch wheels. As well, the range-topping Touring model will receive silver faux skid-plates. Moreover, the Subaru will be available with wheels in a range from 17 to 18 inches.
Inside, the 2019 Subaru Forester will be roomier than before which will provide more head and leg room for all the passengers. The cargo will also be increased and with the rear seats folded down, the Forster will offer the room of 76.1 cubic feet.
Equipment of the 2019 Subaru Forester
The 2019 Subaru Forester will be available in several trim levels. The base model will come standard with automatic climate control, a 6.5-inch touchscreen for infotainment, a panoramic moonroof, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, automatic start/stop, SiriusXM satellite radio, two USB ports, EyeSight package, automatic LED headlights, and so on. The range-topping trim Touring will also add a heated steering wheel, an 8-way passenger’s seat, Harman Kardon audio with 8 speakers, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, chrome door handles, navigation, reverse automatic braking, and many other.
