The Kia Sorento is the brand’s popular mid-size crossover SUV which will be refreshed for the 2019 model year. It now comes standard with three-row seating configuration in all the versions and will get some changes in the exterior styling. The Sorento is equipped with many modern features, especially in the higher trims. It is offered in several versions and those include L, LX, EX, SX, and SXL. However, this time we will mainly focus on the newest 2019 Kia Sorento 3.3L SX model. This version will get some unique details in the exterior design such as larger wheels, acoustic glass etc, while the interior should be similar to the standard but better equipped.
2019 Kia Sorento 3.3L SX engine and performance
The 2019 Kia Sorento SX will be powered by a 3.3-liter V-6 engine which is able to make 290 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel drive is standard while the all-wheel drive system will be available also. Connected to all-wheel drive layout, it is rated at 19 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and 21 mpg combined. The front-wheel drive variant gets 19 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined. As well, the Sorento SXL trim level will also use this engine.
On the other hand, the base L and LX trim levels will be powered by a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine which will have the output of 185 horses and 178 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain will be coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. There will also be a choice between a front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. As for the fuel economy, this engine gets 22/29/25 mpg in the city/highway/combined drive with front wheel drive. The all-wheel drive version is estimated to be 21 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined. Depending on a trim level, the Sorento will be able to tow between 2,000 and 5,000 pounds.
Redesigned exterior of the 2019 Kia Sorento 3.3L SX
As far as the exterior design is concerned, the 2019 Kia Sorento will be refreshed but it will keep its familiar body shape. This time, it will receive the new front and rear bumpers. The swept-back headlamps will also be reshaped and equipped with new LED lighting. As well, the grille will feature more chrome trim, and there will be new four-light LED fog lights. The profile will mainly stay unchanged but we will notice new design of the wheels. The base model will get 17-inch wheels while the SX will use the larger 18- or 19-inch wheels. The higher trim levels such as SX and SXL will also receive shark-fin antenna and an acoustic windshield.
Interior upgrades and equipment
The interior of the 2019 Kia Sorento 3.3L SX so as the SXL versions will be available with two earth-tone interiors. But all the models will finally get a revised steering wheel. One of the biggest changes in the new Sorento will be a new seating configuration. So, all the models will now come with three rows of seats. And will be able to place up to seven passengers. Earlier models came standard with two rows of seats in the base trim levels, and the third row was optional. All the models have comfortable and well-designed seats. The second row can welcome three passengers while the third row is the best for children. The base models come with cloth upholstery while the SX and SXL versions have leather upholstery. As for the cargo room, there isn’t much space behind the third row and it measures 11.3 cubic feet.
The dashboard is equipped with a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment system. The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are also standard. The LX trim level also includes blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, two USB ports, and satellite radio. Automatic climate control and a power passenger seat are optional. The EX adds leather, heated front seats, a power tailgate, rear-seat climate control, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and more acoustic glass. The 2019 Kia Sorento 3.3L SX will be loaded with a power passenger seats, unique steering tuning, and Harman Kardon audio system. The range-topping SXL will get a heated steering wheel, cooled front seats and heated first and second rows of seats, and Nappa leather upholstery.
As for the safety, all the models will come with six airbags, a rearview camera, and stability control while the higher trims including the SX will add blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and active lane control. The automatic high-beam headlights are standard on the SXL and optional on the SX model.
