The Honda CR-V is one of the most popular SUVs on the road because of its very good safety ratings, affordable price, and reliability. The carmaker has announced the newest 2019 Honda CR-V which will bring a few upgrades. It should offer the three-row seating configuration for the first time and the new, hybrid engine under the hood.
Engines and performances of the 2019 Honda CR-V and CR-V Hybrid
The 2019 Honda CR-V will be powered by several types of engines including a hybrid unit as well. However, the standard model will be available with two engines depending on a trim level. The one engine is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder which will power the LX models only. This engine is able to make 184 horses and 180 pound-feet of torque. The front-wheel drive system is standard while the all-wheel drive will be optional. With front-wheel drive setup, this engine gets 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel drive version is rated at 25/31 mpg in the city/highway.
All the other models including EX, EX-L, and Touring trims will use a 1.5-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine. This one is able to make 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque. This engine gets 28/34 mpg with front-wheel drive system. The all-wheel drive version is rated at 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Both engines will be coupled to a continuously variable transmission. Furthermore, both engines will be able to tow up to 1,500 pounds.
On the other hand, the 2019 Honda CR-V should finally be offered with a hybrid engine. And we assume that it will probably use the same engine which powers the Accord Hybrid model. It is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor. This new hybrid version will be a good selling point and will find the key competitors in Nissan Rogue Hybrid, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. This hybrid powertrain should be available in three trim levels including EX, EX-L, and Touring.
Design of the exterior
The exterior design of the new 2019 Honda CR-V and CR-Hybrid will generally be the same as the previous model. The CR-V has been completely new for the 2017 model year when it has gotten more muscular and aggressive design. All the versions look pretty much the same except the higher trims which come with larger wheels. The LX comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels while the EX and higher trim levels come with 18-inch alloy wheels.
The interior design of the 2019 Honda CR-V and CR-V Hybrid
The interior of the 2019 Honda CR-V has two rows of seats. However, this time the carmaker should offer it with a three-row seating configuration for the first time. Generally, its cabin is very-well organized and packed and very well equipped. It looks luxurious and premium with quality materials and modern equipment. Both front and rear seats are comfortable and have sufficient space for all the passengers. The driver’s seat is also a 12-way power adjustable. The base model comes standard with fabric upholstery while the leather is optional. Behind the second row, there is also an ample cargo space which can be enlarged with the rear seats folded down. On the center of the dash, there is a standard 5.0-inch color display and the higher trim levels will get a larger screen.
The 2019 Honda CR-V will be very well equipped and it is available in several variants. So, the base LX model comes standard with automatic climate control, cruise control, power door and tailgate, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, audio system with 4 speakers, and a 60/40-split-fold-down rear seat.
The CR-V EX trim will add 18-inch alloy wheels, heated power side mirror, auto high-beams, heated front seats, a power moonroof, an extra USB port, audio system with 6 speakers, dual-zone climate control, push-button start, and keyless ignition. There is also a larger 7.0-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
The CR-V EX-L will include leather upholstery, satellite radio, premium audio with eight speakers, the power for passenger’s seat, and a garage door opener. The navigation will be optional. Finally, the Touring version will arrive with automatic LED lights, roof rails, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with a navigation system, voice control, a hands-free tailgate, and automatic unique wheels.
As for the safety, every model includes six airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control. The EX, EX-L, and Touring versions will come with Honda’s Sensing suite of safety features. Those are automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, active lane control, and a road departure mitigation system.
