The Escape model has been available with a hybrid engine until 2013 after the Ford manufacturer has dropped the production of this model. However, according to the latest news, the carmaker will offer it with the new engine. And it is going to be the new plug-in hybrid unit. However, the new 2019 Ford Escape Hybrid won’t be much different visually from the standard model except some minor details such as badging.
2019 Ford Escape Hybrid powertrain
The latest news claim that the newest 2019 Ford Escape will finally get a hybrid engine under its hood once again since a hybrid model has been discontinued back in 2013. And it will most likely be a plug-in hybrid engine. However, there is still no official information about the type of engine and performance of the PHEV unit. However, the new Escape is expected to provide an all-electric range of 22 miles at least. And it is similar to the range of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV model and Kia Niro PHEV which has the range of 26 miles.
On the other hand, the standard Ford Escape will continue to offer three engine options as well including the base 2.5-liter inline-4 which can make 168 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. There will also be a 1.5-liter inline-4 turbo with the output of 179 horses and 177 lb-ft of torque. The last one is a 2.0liter inline-4 turbocharged engine. This one is able to produce 245 hp and the torque of 275 lb-ft.
Design of exterior and interior
The Escape has been upgraded as the 2017 model year and it still looks fresh. So for the 2019 version, we don’t expect any changes. The front end is dominated by the prominent hexagonal grille, sleek LED headlamps, and larger air intakes. A Sport Appearance package will be optional and will add more blackout details and an edgier design. For the 2019 Ford Escape Hybrid, we don’t anticipate any upgrades compared to the standard model except the badging and some small details in order to differ.
As for the interior, compared to its main rivals, the 2019 Ford Escape Hybrid will a bit smaller cabin space. Some find its seats a bit firm, but they provide sufficient comfort. As the standard model, the Hybrid version will come with two rows of seats. And will be able to place up to five passengers. The rear seats can be folded down which increases the cargo room from standard 34 cubes to 68 cubic feet. However, the hybrid model might get a slightly smaller space for cargo because of the plug-in hybrid unit and batteries.
