The newest version of the BMW’s popular crossover SUV has been spotted and it is the 2019 BMW X3. This time, the carmaker will present the high-performance variant named X3 M. However, since the X3 has been all-new for 2017, we don’t anticipate any major changes.
2019 BMW X3 – powertrain and performance
The 2019 BMW X3 will return with the same engines as the 2018 model year. So, the X3 sDrive30i and the X3 xDrive30i will be powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. This unit has the output of 248 horses and 258 pound-feet of torque. With rear-wheel drive system, this engine gets 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel drive variant is rated at 22/29 mpg in the city/highway drive.
The next is a 3.0-liter inline-6 turbocharged engine which will power the X3 M40i. This engine is able to generate 355 horses and 369 pound-feet of torque. This unit comes with all-wheel drive system as standard. It is rated at 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
On the other hand, the carmaker should also introduce the newest X3 M version. And it probably won’t get a V-8 engine but instead the same 3.0-liter inline-6 turbo powertrain found in the M40i. However, the X3 M should be much stronger and in M3 and M4 versions, it is able to make around 425 horsepower and the torque of 406 pound-feet. So, the BMW X3 M should be able to make at least 400 horses. Furthermore, the engine will probably be coupled to the new 8-speed M Steptronic automatic gearbox and standard all-wheel drive setup.
Visually, the 2019 BMW X3 won’t be different from the outgoing model which has been all-new for 2018. It borrows some similar design cues from the X5 model but features wider air intakes and sits lower than the previous generation model. It is now better sculpted and better proportioned. The M40i version will get a sporty bumper, LED fog lights, wide grille, and larger air intakes.
On the other hand, the all-new X3 M will feature a bit different design. The front end will get larger kidney grille and LED headlamps which will look sportier. As well, the bumper will get a more aggressive design and the air intakes will be even larger. The profile shouldn’t be much different and will only receive revised side skirts. Furthermore, the X3 M will have a unique design of the wheels and we can expect several new exterior colors. The rear fascia will feature a bit larger spoiler and quad exhaust pipes.
The interior design of the 2019 BMW X3
Although it is a compact crossover SUV, the 2019 BMW X3 will offer very spacious cabin. It has two rows of seats and the front passengers have plenty of room. As well, the rear occupants also don’t lack in legroom. The front seats are very supportive and comfortable and the driver’s seat is power adjustable as well. The synthetic leather upholstery is standard. However, the heated and cooled seats are optional. As for the cargo, the X3 offers the space of 28.7 cubic feet. However, with the second row folded flat, there is a space of 62.7 cubic feet. On the center of the dash, there is a 10.25-inch touchscreen for infotainment system. The Apple CarPlay is available for an extra cost, but the Android Auto connectivity won’t be available.
Moreover, the X3 M model will be very similar to the standard model. However, it will have a slightly wider center console, new steering wheel, new door trim, and revised controls. As well, the X3 M will provide more legroom for the back passengers, and improved cargo space of 19.4 cubic feet. And with the folded second row, there is a room of 56.5 cubes.
Speaking of the equipment, all the models will have automatic climate control, Bluetooth, power features, 18-inch wheels with all-season tires, power front seats, a power liftgate, a rearview camera, and AM/FM/CD audio system. There will be also several packages available. For example, a Convenience package will add a panoramic roof, satellite radio, and LED headlamps. A Dynamic Handling package will also include variable sport steering, adaptive dampers, and M Sport brakes. Furthermore, the M Sport package will come with 19-inch wheels, satellite radio, a sport steering wheel, keyless entry, aluminum or matte wood interior trim, and a sport-tuned suspension.
The 2019 BMW X3 M will have a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Nappa leather dashboard, a premium surround sound system, three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and so on.
