The BMW X1 is the brand’s most affordable SUV in the lineup which is generally very good in every segment. Although it is small, it delivers an ample cabin, good road manners, and solid performance ability. It is available in five distinct trim levels and those are the base, Convenience, M Sport, Premium, and M Sport Premium. The 2018 model year hasn’t changed much except it has added a few more standard features and rearranged equipment among models. On the other hand, the newest version of this model will enter the showrooms as the 2019 BMW X1. However, we truly doubt that it should be upgraded at least visually since it hasn’t been changed much since it has arrived all-new as the 2016 model.
The 2019 X1 has been spied wearing a minimum of the camouflage and which partially covers the taillights. However, they don’t seem much different but might get just a minor change. On the other hand, there is one radical upgrade and it is the new engine under its hood. So, the new BMW will now be powered by a plug-in hybrid unit alongside the well-known 4-cylinder.
The 2019 BMW X1 powertrain
The 2019 BMW X1 will return with the same engine as the 2018 model year, but it will also use a new one. So, the already familiar is a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine. This unit has the output of 228 horsepower and the torque of 258 lb-ft. It works with an 8-speed automatic transmission and there is an option between the front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. The front-wheel version gets 23 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. As for the all-wheel configuration, the numbers are 22/31 mpg in the city/highway drive.
On the other hand, according to the latest news, the 2019 BMW X1 has been caught during its testing with a plug-in hybrid engine for the first time. Unfortunately, we still don’t have any details or information about the engine and exact performance.
Design of exterior and interior
According to the spy shots, the 2019 BMW X1 won’t change significantly from the current model and the only novelty we will see are the slightly restyled headlamps. The front fascia should keep the same kidney grille, optional LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights which will be standard. The M Sport version will add high-gloss roof rails and sport suspension.
We assume that the interior of the 2019 BMW X1 should also remain the same. It features two rows of seats and it is able to accommodate five passengers. The head and leg room are generally very good even for the rear passengers. The cargo room is pretty good too and there is a space of 27.1 cubic feet. If you fold down the rear seats, it provides the room of 58.7 cubic feet.
In the tech front, the X1 comes standard with power adjustable front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, a rearview camera, Bluetooth, a 6.5-inch infotainment, 18-inch wheels, and a rearview camera. The M Sport Package adds keyless ignition, interior lighting, and a panoramic moonroof.
Release date and price
Although it is not yet official, the 2019 BMW X1 might be presented sometime by fall. The pricing should stay similar and it is in a range from $35,000-$40,000.
